Business consulting that changes how your company operates

We work with owner-managed businesses across Greater Manchester. Our focus is on the practical: pricing, cash flow, hiring decisions, and the operational changes that actually move revenue. No slide decks that gather dust.

Sound familiar?

Most of the businesses that contact us share a few common frustrations. Revenue has plateaued, or it grows but profit does not keep pace. The owner is working sixty-hour weeks and still feels behind.

  • Your margins have shrunk over the past two years but you cannot pinpoint why
  • Hiring feels like a gamble, and recent hires have not delivered
  • You know you need a plan for the next three years but cannot find time to write one
  • Financial reports arrive late and tell you what happened, not what to do next

What changes when we work together

Within the first four weeks we identify the two or three levers that will have the largest impact on your bottom line. Then we build a plan around those levers, with clear owners and deadlines.

Clients typically see the first measurable results within 90 days. That might be a pricing adjustment that lifts gross margin by several points, or a restructured sales process that shortens the average deal cycle.

We stay involved through implementation. Advice without follow-through is just opinion.

Four steps from diagnosis to results

Every engagement follows a structure, but the content is shaped entirely by your business.

1

Diagnostic review

We spend two days inside your business: reviewing financials, interviewing key staff, and mapping your processes. At the end you receive a written diagnostic with prioritised findings.

2

Strategy workshop

A half-day session with your leadership team. We translate the diagnostic into a 90-day action plan with specific targets, owners and milestones.

3

Guided execution

Fortnightly check-ins over three months. We troubleshoot obstacles, adjust timelines, and keep momentum. You always know what is on track and what needs attention.

4

Outcome review

At the end of the quarter we measure results against the original targets. You decide whether to continue with a new cycle or take it from here with a clear playbook.

Areas where we can help

Growth strategy

Market analysis, competitive positioning, and a realistic growth roadmap. We help you decide where to invest and what to stop doing. Most clients leave with a clear picture of their best two or three growth channels for the next twelve months.

Operational efficiency

We map your workflows from order to delivery, identify bottlenecks, and redesign processes. One logistics client reduced fulfilment time by 35% after we restructured their warehouse picking sequence and renegotiated carrier contracts.

Financial advisory

Cash flow forecasting, pricing reviews, cost structure analysis. We build models you can actually use, not spreadsheets that require a PhD. If your accountant tells you what happened last quarter, we tell you what to do this quarter.

People and leadership

Hiring frameworks, management coaching, and team structure. We help you build a leadership layer so the business can run without you being in every meeting. Several clients have taken their first proper holiday in years after working through this programme.

Senior consultant at Spectrum Business Advisors Manchester office

Who we are

Spectrum Business Advisors was founded in 2017 by two former operations directors who had spent a combined 30 years inside mid-market companies. We got tired of watching external consultants deliver reports that nobody acted on, so we built a firm around implementation.

Our team today includes five consultants, each with at least a decade of hands-on management experience in sectors ranging from manufacturing and logistics to professional services and e-commerce. Nobody on the team came straight from business school. Everyone has run a P&L.

We are based at 9 Russell Street, Manchester M1 5AN, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. Most of our clients are within an hour of Manchester, though we also work remotely with businesses elsewhere in the UK.

If you want to know whether we can help, the fastest route is a short call. No pitch, no obligation. We will be honest about whether your situation is a good fit for what we do.

Questions we hear often

Our diagnostic review starts at £2,400. A full 90-day engagement, including the diagnostic, strategy workshop, and fortnightly check-ins, typically runs between £8,000 and £15,000 depending on the size and complexity of the business. We agree a fixed fee before we start; there are no hourly surprises.
Most of our clients have between 10 and 200 employees and annual revenue from £1 million to £30 million. We occasionally work with smaller businesses if the challenge is clearly defined and the owner is committed to acting on recommendations.
Yes. About a third of our current clients are outside Greater Manchester. For those engagements we combine on-site visits at the start and end with remote check-ins during the execution phase. The model works well as long as the leadership team is available for scheduled calls.
We usually have capacity to begin a new diagnostic within two to three weeks. If your situation is urgent, let us know and we will see what we can rearrange.
We set measurable targets at the start. If we are not on track at the midpoint review, we adjust the plan at no additional cost. In nine years we have had two engagements where the client and we mutually agreed to end early; in both cases we refunded the unused portion of the fee.
